BPMLDC - A Family Among Friends
So before I begin, I’ve recently watched Tangled, which was a fantastic movie by the way, and this song’s been in my head constantly and I thought that the lyrics actually apply to what I’m saying in this post.
Well today marked the final performance ever for this school year and I was really happy that we were able to form BPM again and perform with the original generation one last time. We managed to advertise pretty well as there was a pretty big crowd, for the day being a Sunday. Shout out to Lion Dance Club for coming out to support! :) Moving on, it was pretty hectic, trying to find spacing and the right tables to sit at. We ended up playing the music at the wrong time, so it kind of spoiled the surprise factor HAHAHAHA. But I think it worked in our favor as the slip-up allowed people to notice us and pay attention. I think we did pretty well, as it was our first performance working around people and tables. We got our cheers and as the crowd dispersed, BPM went back to their seats and starting eating, but I didn’t have much of an appetite.
It was a really happy time. People, coming from all around the world, being united through dance. It was quite the beautiful moment. It felt as if time had stopped or maybe even sped up, and the air was filled with mirth and laughter from inside jokes. The smiles on everyone’s faces really made me feel happy inside. It amazes me how dance can unite people regardless of race, religion, gender, or sexuality. I’m truly, truly, truly glad that I am a part of BPM. Each person brings their own little unique flavor to the team and is an integral part of the team.
But it really saddens me that it won’t be the same BPM as it was. We’re going lose people due to graduation/personal reasons and it’s something that has hit me hard when we were saying our goodbyes. As I shook their hands and gave them hugs, I realized that this might be the last time I might ever see them. It’s a depressing thought I know, but there’s a sliver of possibility with this thought. But as I wipe the hypothetical tears from my face (from onions of course), I’ve realized two things. The first thing is that life in college blazes one by within a bat of an eye. You’ve got to grab it by the reins and make the most out of it. College is a place where you’re tested on every aspect of life whether it be something you learn in class or something you learn from a random person you meet. It’s a place where you realize what your inspirations are and what you truly and deeply want to do. So I’ve decided to give it my all and just live college to the fullest.
The second thing I realized was that this group has so much potential. We just recently added Lion Dance Club, a traditional group here at UC Davis, which has effectively turned BPM, into BPMLDC, a
teamfamily that encompasses all styles of dance ranging from traditional to contemporary to krump. I’m amazed on the growth of this family and I can’t wait as new people and freshman come in to experience the same feelings I felt when I became a part of this family.To BPM Generation 1. It’s been just over a year since we’ve been formed and I have to say, we’ve accomplished so much- as individuals, as clubs, and as BPM. To the new additions as well as future members, welcome to the family. You’ve just joined a family that’s filled with some of the quirkiest, creepiest, funniest, etc people you’ll ever meet with tons of awkward homo-erotic sexual tension included. I just hope that you can have the same experiences I went through. And as for our newest club addition, Lion Dance Club, it’s been amazing to watch you grow as well. It’s definitely an honor to have added you to our BPM family.
This is why I fell in love with dance. It joins so many people together and it loves you back. Life is sad, but I’m glad for all the joy it brings. It really is the little things that count in the end.

also.. you guys killed it today. it was awesome to be able to witness something that meant a ton more to everyone that participated in it than it did those who were just watching (though they enjoyed it for sure, too)

I realized I don’t have a lot of my memories compiled from high school which made me sad… :( I looked on my xanga and I would upload photos to photobucket, but I guess I deleted them at some point. Tehee. So I’m gonna follow in @nahycnil ‘s footsteps!
Day 119/365
- LipDub- UC Davis’ first ever! Next to Popping Club and Taiko [: There was so much running, super tiring, but I can’t wait for the video.
- Raja’s- Lion Dance Club, Popping Club, Breakdance Club! Sat with Matt, Kristin, and Quang! Lots of inappropriate texting haha starting with Matt and Kristin’s ‘I love you’. And also, ‘she’s a screamer’. Met Taran, the owner, who said the panda on my atm card was my son. I told him I sold him for humanity’s sake. Really sweet and generous guy, though!
- Swimming- The water was so cold! Saw Chris and Catrina [: Sat around the hot tub going in and out haha. It was nice[: Popper’s left for their performance at Davis Dance Showcase. Lion Dance bonding time in the hot tub. Blessing/splashing water on each other with tree branches- Kyle’s fair splashing haha. Learned the five tones of Vietnamese which I likened to Chinese tones because it’s more familiar to me [:
- Dinner- Matt, Kristin and I ate Pluto’s, bomb salads with garlic fries, more team bonding [: Got pinkberrry so good. Acapella singing outside of Borders, we got a thumbs up. Sang I’ll Be There. Hahaha.
- Hang out at Matt’s- Read a little, play some cards, lie on Matt’s back, Kristin lie on mine. Uncle Law let me try a Dirty Girl Scout…..it was a serious Ratatouille moment, I was in shock at how good it was. Had two hahaha. Talk with Kristin. Cuddled with Francis. Awkward moment with Eric ahaha. Everyone’s watching Harry Potter, Deathly Hollows now! I’ve been tumblring since we started…

- lipdub - i missed most of it so i wasn’t as tired as everyone else, hahaha. had to leave early in the rehearsal to go watch.. presentations on molecular biology LOL. epitome of nerd. whatevss, one of my friends was presenting his research :) i was originally gonna just watch that one and leave, but the rest were so interesting i decided to stay! ahhhhhhh his labmate had such cool research, and she does all the things i love doing in lab.. ELISAs, western blots, running gels, restriction enzyme digests <3 sigh. WILL GET RESEARCH HOPEFULLY BY NEXT QUARTER. anyway.. i got back to the lip dub in time to make the final runthrough xD so hopefully i still get to be in it!
- raja’s - BPMLDC! <3 new family right here, hahaha. breaking, popping, mobility.. used to be just BPM, or “beats per minute,” but lion dance is slowly making our way into the mix! no idea what the acronym would stand for though. all-you-can-eat indian food, so awesome. good bonding time, for sure.
- swimming - even better bonding time. uncle lawrence stopped by to pick up the poppers and help us turn on the hot tub. such a boss, as you can see by the above picture xD haven’t swam for the longest time.. feels so bad! coordination is completely off, hahah. just swam in my clothes since i didn’t have a swimsuit.
- dinner - habit burger with everyone but grace/matt/kristin, but they came over to hang with us anyway (pluto’s is like 10 steps away). double charburger, mm mmmmmm. read in borders for a while. hunger games, next on my list.
- matt’s - still here as i type this. sitting in matt’s bed, he’s asleep already. eric and francis playing portal 1, grace staring at me typing. “I’M SO HAPPYYY, I’M SO HAPPYYYYY” - grace. hahaha what a strange person :P damn, i wanted to try a dirty girl scout but didn’t go outside. next time.. tried doing my behavior homework but, well, that hasn’t been going so well.. sigh. don’t want to think about this at the moment.
